With its new LED stage wall, the Schauspiel Köln has gained a high-performance media infrastructure that brings digital content onto the stage as a natural part of the production. As one of Germany’s most prominent theaters, it produces performances in which set design, lighting, acting, and media technology merge into a unified spatial experience.

235 MEDIA was responsible for the planning, delivery, and commissioning of the large-format LED installation. The goal was to create a technical solution that could be flexibly integrated into a wide variety of stage designs and that would consistently meet the high demands of daily theater operations.

With a total area of 44 m², 172 LED cabinets, and a pixel pitch of 1.9 mm, the LED wall enables exceptionally detailed image display—even at close viewing distances. Video content, live footage, and graphic elements thus become not merely part of the backdrop but an active component of the production, opening up new creative possibilities for the director, stage design, and dramaturgy.

Special attention was paid to seamless integration into the existing stage and media technology. Ease of maintenance, operational reliability, and precise coordination of all components ensure reliable operation during ongoing performances—even with changing productions and a wide variety of technical requirements.
