Watt Welten | National Park Visitor Center
With “The Wadden Sea in Transition – Past, Present, Future”, the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Centre on Norderney presents a new permanent exhibition dedicated to the constant transformation of the Wadden Sea. Developed by 235 Media, the guiding concept connects past, present and future in an atmospheric journey through time, shaped by tides, habitats and ecological change.
235 Media realised the project as a full general contractor service, including planning services in accordance with HOAS. Scenography, media production, interactive applications and technical implementation were developed entirely in-house.
Classic elements of a natural history museum were reinterpreted and combined with media-based spatial settings, interactive game stations and digital experience formats. Films, expert interviews, animations, graphic exhibition systems and the media guide were specifically conceived and produced to support the exhibition’s dramaturgical structure. Scientific content and complex interrelations were editorially refined and translated into intuitive forms of nature communication.
Different scales, audiovisual stagings and interactive applications create diverse ways of engaging with the topic and translate the dynamic nature of the Wadden Sea into a multilayered exhibition experience.
For the scenography, individual spatial and exhibition designs were developed — ranging from custom-designed wall and furniture elements to integrated aquarium installations and specially designed lighting concepts. The result is an atmospheric exhibition space in which content, architecture and media design interlock with precision.
Behind the scenes, a custom-developed technical infrastructure connects media installations, control systems and interactive applications into a precisely coordinated overall experience, in which content, space and technology merge seamlessly.
