NS-DOK | Interactive Game to Promote Democracy
The NS Documentation Centre of the City of Cologne is the largest local memorial site in the Federal Republic of Germany dedicated to remembrance, education and research on the Nazi era. As part of a spatial expansion, the third floor of the building is being transformed into a fictional experiential space in which participants can engage with various social and political questions.
With the “House for Remembrance and Democracy”, the institution is expanding its educational programme with an interactive game designed to promote democratic engagement: “Tristan da Cunha – Adventure Democracy on an Island”.
Over the course of the game, visitors pass through 12 rooms. Inspired by the concept commonly known as an escape room, groups of five visitors playfully solve social issues and questions together. Visitor guidance is achieved through the targeted combination of audiovisual elements, with recurring sound, light and video components guiding participants through the rooms.
235 Media planned the complex media technology, the interconnection of the rooms and the central control system operated from a control room. In addition, 235 Media developed the programming structure as well as the lighting and sound design.
