Museum Ludwig | Burghardt & Patterson
The exhibition “Fluxus and Beyond: Ursula Burghardt, Benjamin Patterson” at Museum Ludwig in Cologne explores the influential art movement of the 1960s known as Fluxus. The focus is on works by Ursula Burghardt (1928–2008) and Benjamin Patterson (1934–2016), both of whom were connected to the Fluxus network.
Fluxus was characterised by actions and performances that merged art and life as well as different media. In the 1960s, Cologne was a centre of this movement, particularly through the Studio for Electronic Music of the WDR and the studio of artist Mary Bauermeister, where numerous events took place. It was here that Burghardt and Patterson met in person in 1960.
The exhibition was on view from 12 October 2024 to 9 February 2025 and was accompanied by an extensive supporting programme including concerts, readings and workshops.
235 Media installed the media technology, consisting of media players, projectors, displays and audio equipment. In addition, 235 Media programmed the media players and carried out content adjustments.
