The new permanent exhibition “1,000 Years of Brauweiler Abbey” by the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) is part of the anniversary programme celebrating the 1,000-year history of Brauweiler Abbey in Pulheim. It presents the long and eventful history of the site, from its foundation by Benedictine monks in 1024 to its use as a workhouse and Gestapo prison in the 20th century. The exhibition brings together around 30 exhibits, including architectural fragments, historical documents and objects from the former workhouse.

The office of Dr. Ulrich Hermanns acted as general contractor and was responsible for the exhibition design, media production and graphics. The exhibition is designed as a multimedia and accessible experience, featuring video and audio stations with eyewitness interviews as well as tactile and scent stations that make the history of the site tangible through the senses. In addition to the exhibition, the anniversary year 2024 included more than 160 events, as well as a new monastery garden and an expanded memorial site for the victims of the Nazi regime.

235 Media was responsible for the supply, installation and commissioning of the media hardware. In addition, 235 Media programmed the interactive abbey model.
