Flughafen Tempelhof | DIVERSITY UNITED
On June 8, 2021, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier opened the major European art exhibition Diversity United at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin. “Diversity United” is an artistic snapshot of contemporary Europe. The transnational exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures, video and new media, photography, installations, drawings, and object art by approximately 90 artists from 34 countries, representing different generations, genders, and regions. Through their works, they embody the immense diversity and vitality of Europe’s contemporary art scene, from Portugal to Russia, from Norway to Turkey. The exhibition highlights themes such as freedom and democracy, migration and territory, political and personal identity, utopias and fears—themes that also revolve around the current pandemic. “Diversity United” reflects the complexity of the European idea and its social realities in a globalized world; the artworks address themes such as power and equality, migration and territory, and political and personal identity.
235 Media was responsible for the media technology planning and the installation of the media works, including those by Christian Boltanski, Ulla von Brandenburg, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Richard Mosse, Anri Sala, Tristan Schulze, Luc Tuymans, and Nil Yalter.
The exhibition is a collaboration with Petersburger Dialog e. V., Tempelhof Projekt GmbH, and the Tretyakov Gallery. Diversity United is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
Other venues include the New Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
