Bundeskunsthalle | Marina Abramovic
Marina Abramović is one of the most famous and controversial contemporary artists—especially for her groundbreaking performances, in which she repeatedly pushes the limits of her own physical and psychological endurance. “The Cleaner” is the first major retrospective of the performance artist’s work, which opened in Germany on April 20 at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn.
The exhibition comprehensively reflected the various facets of her work, with personal experience and responsibility serving as central themes. Films, photography, paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and selected archival material showcased the artist’s thematic and media-based breadth throughout the exhibition experience. “The Cleaner” took first place in a survey of nine critics conducted by “Welt am Sonntag.”
235 MEDIA installed 35 projections, 25 monitor installations, and the exhibition’s audio equipment.
