The Karl-Marx-Haus Museum is the birthplace of Karl Marx and opened a new permanent exhibition on May 5, 2018, focusing on the historical impact of Marx’s ideas up to the present day.

235 MEDIA created six media installations for the new permanent exhibition at the Karl-Marx-Haus Museum in Trier and produced and implemented the media content. In addition to three monitor installations and an interactive audio chair, an LED mesh and an interactive reading book are integral parts of the scenography.

The media installations serve as a deliberate counterpoint to the concrete nature of the exhibition’s content and are intended as contemplative oases of calm amid a challenging wealth of information. For example, the wall-sized LED mesh uses its low resolution and the visitors’ close viewing distance to create an associative panorama of criticism of capitalism through a flood of images featuring iconic depictions from current political events.

The interactive reader, on the other hand, harnesses the opposite effect as a medium capable of conveying content in a concentrated and incisive manner. Through its very form of presentation, it also underscores the paramount importance that the medium of the book held for Karl Marx personally and for the global dissemination of his ideas.
