The Hoesch Museum was created through a collaboration between former “Hoeschians,” the Museum of Art and Cultural History, and the Foundation for the Westphalian Economic Archives. The museum is housed in the historic gatehouse of the Westfalenhütte and presents an overview of 160 years of Dortmund’s steel industry history.

The newly revamped media installation “Phoenix from the Ashes,” originally created in 2005, has now been updated in terms of technology, graphics, and content with an 84-inch multitouch monitor featuring 4K resolution. Based on an aerial view of the city, visitors can learn about the plans and future prospects for 11 former industrial sites in Dortmund. Features such as the comparison of aerial photographs from 1969 and 2017 vividly illustrate the structural transformation in Dortmund. Numerous segments on leisure, housing, and work keep visitors informed about current developments.

235 MEDIA designed and produced the media content and installed the media technology.
