Treetop Trail | Root Cave
In May 2016, the new “Root Cave” exhibition area opened along the Treetop Trail in Hainich National Park. As a miniature human, visitors walk through the cave-like exhibition and not only encounter the creatures of the darkness but also learn how the giant trees absorb water and nutrients from the soil to grow, how the “underworld” lives and functions, and which important soil dwellers are responsible for waste disposal, for example. The elaborately designed exhibition is a varied mix of interactive elements, hands-on models, and educational explanations. For example, the “Soil Types—and Structure” station, where visitors receive additional information through an augmented reality application. Or the “Decomposition of a Leaf” station, where visitors can use a slider to view the decomposition of a leaf on a timeline.
235 MEDIA implemented the entire media technology and played a key role in 29 installations.
