Arne Jacobsen Foyer | Gudrun Barenbrock
During the 2019 KunstFestSpiele in Hanover, strange plants and all manner of creatures took up residence in the Arne Jacobsen Foyer. What was moving here was part of the video and sound installation “Greenhouse” by Cologne-based media artist Gudrun Barenbrock, who transformed the glass cube into a walk-in “greenhouse for images.” The result was a multi-layered composition of fleeting, flowing, and proliferating rhythms of light and sound.
In her work “Greenhouse,” Barenbrock draws on observations of nature she made during her numerous travels to remote regions of Central Africa, North and South America, and Asia. These are preserved snapshots that document order and diversity amid the apparent chaos of nature.
235 MEDIA planned and implemented the projection and playback technology. In collaboration with the artist, extensive testing was conducted to select the optimal projection media and develop the frame structure for the gauze surfaces. The semi-transparent projection surfaces inside the space created numerous optical effects through the multiplication and reflection of the projections on the floor and ceiling, extending even to objects outside the building, on which the projections were still visible.
The artist published comprehensive video documentation on Vimeo.
