The Kaiser Wilhelm Monument in Porta-Westfalica has been the symbol of Westphalia for 120 years. It was erected between 1892 and 1896 in honor of Emperor Wilhelm I. After a two-year renovation, the monument reopened on July 8, 2018, with a new visitor center.

The new visitor center is located on the circular terrace, which was reconstructed based on the original design. In the 270 m² exhibition space, visitors can interactively explore various aspects of the 88-meter-high monument at six media stations. For example, a large-format interactive table is dedicated to the development of the natural and cultural landscape around Porta Westfalica. Another large-format installation—a 17-meter-wide wall panorama and three accompanying interactive terminals—unfolds the history of the Porta from its geological origins to the present day through 33 historical hotspots that can be explored in detail.

Three interactive screens on the topic of monument culture offer a broader context beyond the Porta and the monument, allowing visitors to reflect on their own opinions through a multiple-choice survey.

235 MEDIA created a total of six media stations for the visitor center and produced and implemented the media content.
