Dithmarscher Landesmuseum
The Dithmarschen Regional Museum presents the regional history of Dithmarschen up to 1867, focusing on tides, dike construction, landscape development, and settlement. Parts of the building—some of which are designated historic landmarks—and accessible rooms take visitors on a journey through the region’s history, including the famous courtroom of Markus Swyn from 1568. Other topics are also covered, such as artifacts from the Dithmarschen Peasants’ Republic—particularly from the Middle Ages and the early modern period—as well as a rich collection of textiles, toys, and furniture.
As part of a three-year renovation project, the historically protected building is being modernized, and a new wing is being added to expand the museum. As a result of this project, the exhibitions are being redesigned and updated with digital exhibits. A key focus here is accessibility, both in terms of physical access and the presentation of content.
235 Media is implementing numerous new media stations, room installations, and animations. These combine analog and digital displays that invite visitors to participate and create an inclusive visitor experience.
